5 Reasons Why Yoo Jae-suk is the Perfect Running Man

There's really a lot to write when it comes to the Nation's MC, the Grasshopper Yoo Jae-suk. I mean, he's like the cornerstone of the show; it's almost impossible to imagine a Running Man without his laughter, or his snide comments at Kwang-soo, or his rivalry with the Commander, or his caring personality to Running Man members, guests and staff alike. Try as hard as you can, but a Running Man show without Yoo Jae-suk is like a car without wheels, or a man without limbs. Nothing is going to go forward.

So here are the 5 reasons why Jae-suk is the perfect Running Man.

#1 He's nice to everyone

Yoo Jae-suk's kindness is exemplary. During Running Man filmings outdoors, he'll usually be the first one to shake hands with the passers-by, greeting them with a smile. He's also extremely nice to first-time guests, making them feel comfortable and less awkward with cleverly timed jokes to keep the mood up. He has a good rapport with his VJ as well, having survived the fear of the Commander together.

He's very, very generous in real life. One example is seen in episode 34, when both he and Suk-jin were at a restaurant for a mission. When he realized that a group of students were graduating, he immediately offered to foot the bill for them as a form of congratulations.

He really is too nice.

#2 He's quick

Yoo Jae-suk is one of those people who is both quick with his mouth and quick on his feet. Not only can he come up with brilliant quips which are hilariously suited to the moment, he's also pretty quick to run away from any form of danger. How else could he have outwitted the Running Man hunter, Choi Min-soo twice? Or manage to outrun the Commander? Plus, he's had 3 Yoomes Bond Specials, all of which he successfully managed to beat the rest of the members.

That is quick-wittedness, and speed at its best.

#3 He values entertainment above self

For Yoo Jae-suk, the most important thing he can do on Running Man is to make sure that the viewers laugh. He works hard to get the comedic "timing", and is definitely open to trying out everything for the sake of entertainment.

He isn't afraid of tarnishing his image in any way, in fact, he embraces the comedic purpose of his every action, and people love him and his shows for just that reason.

That drawing has been made into a card game.

#4 He's brave in cowardice

Yoo Jae-suk is probably one of the bravest members among all the members (except Ji-hyo because she's the Ace) despite his constant show of being cowardly. He's willing to try out a lot of the games; from bungee jumping (ep 70), to climbing the mast of the Macau Tower (ep 133), despite his fear of heights, and even going one on one with the Commander in several situations. Going up against the Commander in itself is a daunting task, but at the very least, he tries his best to win.

Keyword: Tries.

#5 He's a leader

Being the main MC for Running Man has given Jae-suk a lot of responsibilities, one of which puts him into the position of a de facto leader. He's there to guide and take care of the younger members, especially at the beginning of the show.

Kwang-soo, Gary, and eventually Ji-hyo were all variety newcomers, and Jae-suk's guidance has seen them evolve into the beloved variety stars that they are today (Kwang-soo's Prince of Asia title and the immense popularity of the Monday Couple is enough proof of that).

With Running Man still going strong, we can only hope that the Grasshopper will bring us more joy and laughter in the coming year 2014. I'm pretty sure that's what he would like to do for the fans of the show too. Because Yoo Jae-suk is nice that way.
